Chief Exec Andrew Dane<\/strong> has our year in review to share with members.<\/p>\n

Maverick moments \u2013 <\/strong>what lies ahead? <\/strong>Throughout our 40th<\/sup> anniversary year, Julien Willems<\/strong> has been reflecting on various aspects of our history of doing things differently and following our own path. Here, he takes the opportunity to look ahead to whatever maverick moments could be in store for members as we head towards our half century.<\/p>\n

Distillery profile \u2013 Yuza, Japan:<\/strong> The small-scale distillery of Yuza in northern Japan is taking its expertise in distilling shochu to focus on crafting a one-of-a-kind whisky, which is traditionally Japanese and where attention to detail and craftsmanship is at the heart of production.<\/p>\n

Edinburgh\u2019s liquid history:<\/strong> The Edinburgh New Town residence of 10 Scotland Street has been home to booksellers, silk merchants, sailors, preachers, politicians and more since it was first inhabited in the early 19th<\/sup> century. As the home of Pip and Leslie Hills, it also played a key role in the formation of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society. Now, Leslie Hills <\/strong>has written a history of the house over the course of two centuries, including an intriguing connection with The Vaults in Leith.<\/p>\n

SMWS bottles \u2013 What\u2019s in a name?<\/strong> The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has always taken pleasure in our inventive bottle names. But where does the Tasting Panel\u2019s inspiration come from? SMWS Australia ambassador Alex Moores<\/strong> searched through the archives to find out \u2013 from cinema to song, science fiction and beyond\u2026<\/p>\n
